‘Give us offices on BMC land’
The civic corporators have come up with their freshest demand for an office on a municipal land to “serve people” at the cost of public exchequer. Their earlier demands had included, laptops, iPads and Android cellphones.
MNS corportor Samita Naik asked the BMC to provide offices for corporators in the 227 wards on plots belonging to the civic body. In a notice of motion, tabled in the civic house, Ms Naik said, “After getting elected, we have to remain in constant touch with people but can’t afford to buy space for office as land rates are too steep.”
It is not the first time, such favours have been asked for from the BMC. While mayor Sunil Prabhu had earlier demaded that iPads be given to corporators, standing committee chairman Rahul Shewale had asked for Android cellphones. The civic body has already handed over laptops to the corporators.
The corporators also get `400 attendance allowance for every house general body and civic committee meetings, and are allowed to travel free-of-cost by BEST buses.
Municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte said, “We will study the proposal in detail before arriving at any decision on it. It will be intimated to the house accordingly.”
