Friends may be booked
The Samta Nagar police in Kandivali (east) might book the friends of the rape accused who received nude pictures of the 18-year-old rape victim sent through the accused’s mobile phone.
Rape accused Akash Kamble’s mobile handset has been seized and sent to the Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Kalina to find out the number of persons who accepted the photos via bluetooth.
Criminal lawyer Majeed Memon said, “If the technology (bluetooth) conclusively establishes that all of Kamble’s friends were also near or with Kamble, then the offences could be applied to them too.”
The Samta Nagar police recently arrested the accused after he forcibly raped his girlfriend in a hotel. “Kamble took three nude pictures of the victim and sent it to his friends. We are going through the IT Act and other acts to see if his friends can be booked for accepting the nude pictures,” said sub-inspector Nilesh Bagav investigating the case.
“The girl was helpless. The accused demanded cash, gold and silver jewellery from her to not make the pictures public. She gave him `20, 000 and gold pendants, silver earrings and a mangalsutra from her house out of fear,” said Mr Bagav. Despite that, the accused circulated the pictures among his friends.
Kamble, a ticket seller by profession, has been booked under Sections 376, 385 , 420 of the IPC and under IT Act 67(a). He has been remanded to custody.
