ENGINEER KILLED AFTER BIKE FLIPS DUE TO POTHOLE
A young, newly-wed, civil engineer was killed after his speeding motorcycle’s front wheel went into a deep pothole, causing the vehicle to flip over.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night in Kurar, Malad (east), said the police.
According to the Kurar police, it was raining heavily when the accident took place, and the deceased, Umesh Shinde (28), could not see the pothole, which had a radius of over half a foot, and a depth of six inches.
The accident took place at around 8 pm, on the southbound stretch of the Western Express Highway, while Shinde was descending a bridge located near Pushpa Park, Ban-Dongri.
Sub-inspector Sudhakar Mhamunkar, the investigating officer, said, “Mr Shinde did not suffer any external injuries. He was wearing a helmet as well, but he was a bit hefty, weighing around 90kg. When he fell, he badly injured his liver, and suffered internal injuries on his chest as well as the lower part of his abdomen.”
The traffic policemen posted in the area took Shinde to the hospital, but he was declared dead before arrival.
Shinde was employed as a civil engineer with a private developer in Thakur Complex, and was returning home after
work. He lived at SV Road, in Kandivali (west), and is survived by his wife of one month, his parents, and his brothers. His father works at Cooper Hospital.
