‘Draft policy on mobile towers ready by July 15’
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will finalise the draft policy on setting up of mobile towers in the city by July 15.
Municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte said, “The data of official and unofficial mobile towers will be prepared by the end of July and then the policy will be released. We will also invite suggestions and objections from people and their views will be incorporated into the policy before sending it to the standing committee for approval.”
Actress Juhi Chawla, who is fighting against the ill-effects of mobile towers, on Thursday called upon the civic chief and raised the issue of health hazards. She also demanded action against illegal mobile towers. “Even if the draft policy comes into place, it will be of no use as the towers which are already there will not be removed,” she said.
According to data available with the civic body, there are 3,705 mobile towers in the city, of which 1,830 are illegal.
