‘Don’t implement ban in retrospect’
Member of Legislative Council Ramdas Mote has written to the state education ministry office, demanding regularisation of teachers appointed before May 2, 2012. The letter stated that the ban on appointment of teachers cannot be implemented in retrospect, and if the government does so, it would be unjust. According to Maharashtra Rajya Shikshak Parishad (MRSP) the future of nearly 2,000 teachers appointed before May 2, 2012 is in jeopardy because of the ban.
Anil Bornare, president of the MRSP said that ever since the government declared a ban on the appointment of teachers last year, there have been numerous problems even for teachers appointed before the ban. “These teachers have been working without salaries as they are yet to receive the government’s approval. Numerous representations by our organisation have fallen on deaf ears and hence, Mr Mote decided to take up the issue,” said Mr Bornare.
Concurring with Mr Bornare’s views, Mr Mote said that the government’s apathy was jeopardising the future of thousands of teachers. He also criticised the decision of the government to implement the ban with retrospective effect, thus putting the jobs of 2,000 teachers on the line. The letter written to education minister Rajendra Darda points to this, requesting the minister to look into the issue urgently.
“We will await a response from the government. If there is no response, our organisation has the backing of three MLCs, including Mr Mote. If the need arises, they will take up the issue at the highest level and MRSP could also resort to an aggravated agitation,” said Mr Bornare.
MRSP one of the oldest teachers’ organisation in the state and has the support of nearly 70,000 teachers. An agitation by these teachers could bring the school education system to a standstill.
