COURT ORDERS COPS TO PROBE AKRUTI ‘SCAM’
The Andheri metropolitan court has ordered the MIDC police station to conduct an investigation against Akruti Builders in a “cheating and forgery” case.
According to a complaint filed by social worker Bhikaji Jadh-av, Akruti Builders had violated an SRA scheme in 2009.
Mr Jadhav alleged that Akruti Builders had procured the land from Security Excha-nge Board of India, claiming that it wanted to construct a multi-storeyed building for slumdwellers, living in the vicinity. “However, a major portion of the building is not occupied by slumdwellers,” Mr Jadhav alleged.
According to the complaint, Akruti constructions got the flats in the Slum Rehabili-tation Authority building by allegedly forging legal documents. Mr Jadhav further maintained that he had enough evidence to prove that the residents of the buildings “are not poor, but own property at Malabar Hill and Mulund”.
The complaint further reads, “The accu-sed, by committing these acts, have actually grabbed flats of real slumdwellers (sic).”
Mr Jadhav also clai-med that he had filed a case against illegal possession of the SRA flats at the Yellowgate police station and had even approached the EoW office , but they allegedly refused to take cognisance of the issue. The court has now directed the police to expedite the investigation within the legal timeframe.
