Court disposes Puri’s anticipatory bail plea
The sessions court on Saturday disposed of the anticipatory bail application of actor Om Puri, who is accused of assaulting his wife Nandita. Puri had told the court that he wants to withdraw the plea.
This comes after the Mumbai police informed the court that Puri was charged under bailable offences. Puri’s lawyer Niteen Pradhan said that they would approach the police for the bail, as all the offences were bailable, following which the application was withdrawn.
According to Nandita’s complaint, the actor had assaulted her with a wooden stick on August 22.
Puri, 62, is facing charges under Sections 324 (causing hurt by dangerous means), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. The police has said that the couple was arguing about the maintenance of their suburban Versova flat, in the course of which Puri assaulted Nandita.
However, according to the actor’s application, their domestic help’s daughter offered rakhi to Puri’s son and Nandita gifted her a cellphone. However, the girl demanded a smartphone which the actor refused to give. Consequently, Nandita reportedly told him that he could spend huge amount of money on his “mistresses”, but couldn’t pay for this gift. An argument ensued and Puri got up to leave, but Nandita “walked upon him and caught his collar” and he had to push her off to
leave.
