Cops bust freshers’ party; fine students, dj Rs 5,000
The city police played party poopers at a freshers’ party organised by senior medical students for newcomers when they raided the premises for playing loudspeakers without the requisite permission.
While no one was arrested, the police imposed a hefty fine of `5,000 on the students and the DJ for playing music without approval from the police.
The incident took place on Friday night in the premises of the King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital in Parel. “Senior students had organised a freshers’ party for their juniors and they had also invited a disc jockey (DJ) for the event. Some locals and a patient complained to us, following which we entered the premises and ordered that the music be stopped. We made enquiries and learned that they had not informed us about a loudspeaker being used. We therefore brought a few of the students, including the DJ, charged them a fine of `5,000 and released them,” said senior PI Sunil Tondwalkar of the Bhoiwada police station. The fine was levied according to provisions of the Bombay Police Act, officers said.
