COPS ARREST ONE MORE IN MUMBRA BUILDING COLLAPSE
Over 90 days after the seven-storey illegal building in Mumbra’s Lucky Compound on Shil Diagar Road collapsed, killing 74 people, the Thane crime branch arrested one more accused on Thursday, who was a partner of the two builders who built the ill-fated structure.
Four more accused are wanted in the case, while 22 persons including eight government servants have been chargesheeted.
According to the Thane police crime branch, the accused Hadisullah Choudhary (63), is a resident of the Kausa area in Mumbra and has been arrested from his locality.
Praveen Pawar, deputy commissioner of police said, “Hadisullah hails from Uttar Pradesh. Soon after the building collapsed, he escaped to his hometown and then to another undisclosed location. He later applied for anticipatory bail; it was, however, rejected on June 29.”
On Thursday, the crime branch received a tip off that Chaudhary was back in Mumbra and was living at a friend’s place.
He was picked up from there and was placed under arrest.
“Chaudhary was produced before the magistrate’s court and has been remanded to our custody till July 16. We have already filed the chargesheet in the case and after we finish investigating him, we will submit a supplementary chargesheet in the case. Four more accused are wanted in the case and we are on the lookout for them,” added Mr Pawar.
Over 74 people, including 23 women, seven minor boys and 11 minor girls were killed. Around 62 were injured.
