College cut-offs remain high even in second merit list
Most of the top colleges in the city have claimed to have filled up 55 to 75 per cent of their seats after the first round of admissions to the first year of degree college courses was completed on Thursday evening.
Cut-offs continued to remain high in the second merit list that was announced later in the evening due to the huge demand for professional and self-financed courses instead of the traditional courses in Arts, Science and Commerce.
Stating that a large number of students, both in-house and from other colleges, had queued-up for admission to their college, Dr Ashok Wadia, principal of Jai Hind College said that at the end of the first round, the college had filled up nearly 70 per cent of their seats and the remaining would be filled up in the second round. The cut-offs for the second merit list for BAF was 91 per cent, BFM 86 per cent, BBI 81.1 per cent and BMS 95.2 per cent.
Principal Dr Sunil Mantri of NM College at Vile Parle also said that the college had filled up 75 per cent of the seats at the end of the first round. “We will complete admissions at the end of the second round,” he said. The cut-offs for the second merit list for the college are — BMS 94 per cent, BAF 94 per cent and BFM 88 per cent (approximate figures).
Dr Sangeeta Kohli, principal of Somaiya College at Vidyavihar also said that they had managed to fill up nearly 65 to 70 per cent of the seats and had a handful of seats remaining for the second round, cut-offs for which are: BAF 77 per cent, BBI 65 per cent, BFM 60 per cent, BMS 73 per cent and BMM 63 per cent (approximate figures).
Hinduja College at Charni Road also did not show much of a difference over their previous cut-offs in the second merit
list. Their cut-offs were pegged at BAF 80.33 per cent, BFM 74.5 per cent, BBI 73.5 per cent and BMM 76.17 per cent for Commerce students. “We have exhausted most of the seats in the first round itself and do not have seats in most categories,” said Dr Shiware.
Principal Dinesh Punjwani of RD National College at Bandra also said that 55-58 per cent of the seats had been filled.
The cut-offs for the second round were as follows: BAF 76 per cent, BMS (Commerce) 78.83 per cent, (Science) 66.67 per cent and (Arts) 59.2 per cent. In BMM, the cut-offs were: (Commerce) 82.22 per cent, (Science) 73.2 per cent and (Arts) 78.83 per cent.
