Civic school syllabus to feature cartoons
Drab graphs and pie charts can make way. BMC schools students will now learn through cartoons and caricatures. Civic schools are all set to implement a new “animation project” which involves learning through visual media.
The curriculum will be taught with the help of a projector connected to a computer, by which animated pictures will be shown.
IL and FS Education, one of the reputed firms in the education sector, made a presentation for animation project before mayor Sunil Prabhu in the BMC headquarters. The project, called Prakash Parivartan’ emphasises on the use of visual images to educate students, instead of just relying on text-books.
Mr Prabhu said, “The animation method seems to be one of the easiest ways to train students. The method will be helpful in increasing the inquisitiveness of the students.”
According to the education department officials, tough subjects like Science, English, Mathematics can be taught in a simpler manner by using animation. The BMC also hopes that this will improve the conversational English of students.
Eduction officer Mirza Beg said, “IL and FS Education has made a presentation of the animation method to the civic body and we are expecting their formal proposal to implement it in civic schools. If immediate steps are taken, it can be introduced by the next academic year.”
The BMC, last year, had started a virtual classroom project, which involves interactive education via satellite. Well-known orators, educators, moderators and teachers of various subjects were invited to deliver lectures to municipal students via satellite.
