City sees 2 tree falling cases in span of 4 hours
Even as Mumbai only witnessed slight drizzle through Friday, two major tree falling incidents were reported
in the span of four hours in the city, disrupting traffic and leaving one injured.
The first incident occurred at Maheshwari Udayan near King Circle, Matunga on Friday morning.
At around 11 am, an old jamun tree came crashing down on the parapet of King Circle flyover and landed on a moving truck at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road.
The tree collapse disrupted traffic at King Circle for over two hours. However, nobody was injured in the incident.
According to BMC officials, the tree was around 60 years old and measured up to 50 to 60 feet in height.
The tree was already reclining and the rain had made the roots, soft and supple. Also, the winds in the morning, could have led to the eventual collapse, the official said.
When contacted, Shubhangi Jamdade, sub-inspector, Matunga police station said, “The tree first broke the parapet of the flyover and then fell on a moving truck, which damaged the truck slightly, but fortunately there was no casualty.”
In the second incident, a 43-year-old woman was injured when the branch of a tree fell near KEM Hospital in Parel. The incident occurred at around 3 pm.
