Cidco to build railway stations

The City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) has decided to build new railway stations in Navi Mumbai, including Bonkawade, which is the homeplace of guardian minister Ganesh Naik, and Digha. The issue was discussed at a meeting between chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Friday at the Sahyadri guesthouse.

According to sources, Mr Pawar took personal interest in the issue, as he wants to ensure that his party MP Sanjeev Naik retains the Navi Mumbai Lok Sabha seat.
Bonkawade, birthplace of Mr Ganesh Naik, is en route on the Thane-Panvel harbour railway line. NCP MP Sanjeev Naik, son of Mr Ganesh Naik, had demanded that Cidco build a railway station at Bonkawade. His demand was sanctioned by the CM and Mr Pawar at the meeting. Mr Ganesh Naik and Cidco chairman Pramod Hindurao were also present at the meeting.
At the same meeting, the long pending issue of the transfer of plots from Cidco to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) was discussed. Initially, Cidco claimed that it had transferred 541 plots that were reserved for various public purposes. Denying the claim of Cidco, a source from the NMMC said that Cidco had transferred 482 plots only.
“The meeting arrived at the decision that Cidco would have to review the plots, confirm the actual transfer of plots, make surveys and transfer the remaining 59 plots to the NMMC,” said the source.
NMMC commissioner Abasaheb Jarhad confirmed it and said, “We got positive response from Cidco regarding the transfer of plots at the Friday meeting. The CM has directed Cidco to complete the survey within a certain period.”
Another 592 plots were demanded by the NMMC in a meeting. It was also decided that a survey would be conducted and the Cidco would have to transfer the particular plots to NMMC for development purposes such as building schools, gardens and other public utilities, said the source.
