Chargesheet filed against 2 beed doctors
The police on Thursday filed a chargesheet against two doctors — Shivaji Sanap and Shrihari Lahane — from Beed in connection with the two female foetuses found dumped in Beed in June this year.
Sanap and his father-in-law Lahane were arrested for allegedly conducting two illegal abortions. The foetuses were then taken to the basin of the Bindusara River in Beed by two of the hospital staff — Manisha Jawle and Mangal Dighe — where they were dumped and found on the morning of June 2.
After conducting investigations in the area and getting tip-offs from informants, the Beed police arrested the two doctors and their two employees. Further inquiries revealed that the duo had also conducted an abortion on a 17-year-old unmarried girl, and that her family had buried the foetus in their farm. A separate case was registered against the family. “Along with Sanap and Lahane, the chargesheet also includes names of 20 others. These are employees of the hospital and families of the two women who underwent the abortion. They have all been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques Act and the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act,” said an officer with the Beed police. The case is expe-cted to go to trial soon.
