Businessman kills self at home
A 37-year-old businessman committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in Govandi on Saturday night. Though, no suicide note was found from the spot, sources said that he ended his life after a fight with his wife over some personal issue. But, the police believes the man had suffered losses in his business and ended his life due to depression.
The deceased has been identified as Ankur Rajendra Gupta, who hanged himself in flat number 3 of Green Field, Ghatala Village,
Govandi. Gupta, who had a business of textile machines spare parts, was living with his wife Shikha, whom he married around 10 years ago, and has a nine-year-old son.
“Shikha had come to her husband’s house on Saturday night from her parent’s home in Mulund. She knocked on the door, but did not get any response. She then called her husband’s cellphone, but found it to be switched off. Assuming that he might be asleep, she returned to her parents’ home along with her son. She had made this assumption as there had been instances in the past when he had not opened the door as he was asleep,” said B. Rane, senior inspector of Govandi police station.
Mr Rane added that Shikha returned the next morning (on Sunday) and knocked on the door. After she didn’t get any response, she sensed something could be amiss and informed the secretary of the society.
A watchman then entered the first floor flat from the rear window to find Gupta hanging from the ceiling fan with a rope.
The Govandi police registered an accidental death report and Gupta’s body was sent to Rajawadi Hospital for a post-mortem.
“There was no suicide note found at the spot, but preliminary probe indicates that he suffered losses in his business and his company had also shut down. He had huge debts and went into a depression,” said investigation officer PSI M.D. Gund.
