BMC suspends 8 men in Octroi case
Acting strictly on the complaint filed by civic law committee chairman Makarand Narvekar about Octroi evasion, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has suspended eight employees from the Octroi department for dereliction of duty.
According to the civic officials, action has been taken against total 11 employees, including three from Maharashtra State Security Corporation (MSSC), whose guards are also posted at Octroi nakas.
All the eight suspended civic employees, including four inspectors and markers, are from the Vashi- Octroi naka. They were suspended from their duties on May 21.
“While eight civic employees have been suspended for dereliction of duty and for causing loss to the BMC, a report against three MSSC guards has been sent to higher authorities for further action. The civic employees will remain suspended till the inquiry is complete,” said a senior official from the civic assessor and collection department.
In a statement tabled before the civic standing committee, additional municipal commissioner Rajeev Jalota had said that the civic administration would take strict action against the civic officials and employees found to be helping in Octroi evasion and protecting the interests of Octroi agents.
