BMC to rebuild aircraft at Juhu Park
The BMC has decided to rebuild the aircraft at Juhu Tara Garden that had collapsed four years ago, killing a child. It has also decided to widen the lake in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park to encourage boating as a tourist attraction.
The toy aeroplane was a huge attraction for kids at the Juhu Park. But on March 20, 2009, Pravin Jamdale lost his life when the left wing of the toy aircraft, which was a slab of concrete, fell on him.
Following the incident, the civic body demolished the aeroplane, as it was dilapidated.
“The new aeroplane will be made of concrete and half the work is already over. It should be ready in less than two months,” said a senior civic official from the municipal architect department.
Apart from this, the civic body has also proposed to develop and beautify several gardens in the city. The project proposal also includes a new recreational space that would be developed near Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali. Under this project, the present lake at the park would be widened to encourage boating activities. In addition to this, promenades, jogging racks, cycle tracks, food plaza and other counters will be set up in the park.
“We have prepared a basic design of the project which will begin after obtaining necessary permissions from various authorities,” said the official.
The BMC has also planned to develop various gardens like Durgadevi Gardens at Nagpada, SK Patil Garden at Charni Road, Five Gardens at Dadar, Pepsi Ground at Gorai, two recreational grounds at Gorai Crematorium and Siddharth Nagar Garden at Borivali. The civic body will be developing a Jungle-themed garden at Siddharth Nagar in Borivali, where it would not cut or shift any of the 500 trees on that plot, and weave the design around those trees itself.
Under the Five Gardens development project, the BMC plans to install seating areas, gardens and fountains in the main garden.
