Bhujbal dragged into PWD bribery scam
Senior BJP leader Dr Kirit Somaiya on Saturday targeted public works minister (PWD) Chhagan Bhujbal stating that the arrest of PWD executive engineer Satish Chikhlikar, who was caught accepting a bribe, has revealed the nexus between ministers, engineers and the contractors of the PWD.
He has also given a letter to the director general, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday demanding that the nexus be probed and the guilty be booked.
The ACB arrested Chikhlikar along with section engineer Jagdish Wagh for accepting a bribe in Nashik. While the ACB recovered properties worth `14.28 crore from Chiklikar during the raid, Wagh was found to have a net worth of over `86 lakh. A case of disproportionate assets might be registered against the duo.
Hitting out at the PWD minister, Dr Somaiya said, “This shows the nexus between engineers and contractors. The ACB officials have recovered assets worth `27 crore till now. It seems that the whole PWD department is running such rackets in connivance with the ministers.”
The BJP leader has demanded a probe into who paid the bribe and who were the beneficiaries. “I have requested the ACB to take drastic action against all the engineers, contractors and ministers found involved in this case,” he said.
When contacted, Mr Bhujbal denied the charges levelled against him. “The allegations are totally baseless. The ACB will definitely find out who the actual culprits are. It looks like Mr Somaiya has the habit of making allegations against me,” he said.
