Another Guj trip for BMC?
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials seem to have developed a keen interest in learning about the civic infrastructure in the state of Gujarat. After the civic improvement committee members visited the neighbouring state to study its development works, it is now the civic tree authority’s turn as they plan to study the tree transplantation method adopted in Gujarat.
According to the civic officials, the BMC has decided to use advanced hydraulic machines for the transplantation of trees. The state government in Gujarat is currently using these machines for the transplantation of trees in the state.
In the transplantation process, the trees are lifted from their roots with the use of machines and planted at other places. So far, these hydraulic machines have yielded satisfactory results.
The civic officials said that Gujarat Fertilisers, a company based in Baroda, has been using these hydraulic machines for the transplantation of trees. The BMC team will visit this company to study the project and its benefits.
Tree authority member Abhijeet Chavan said, “Trees with a maximum circumference of 90 cm can be successfully transplanted with the help of the hydraulic machines. These machines, if used in Mumbai, will save several old and big trees from being hacked and transplanted in an unscientific manner.”
The civic improvement committee members had toured several cities in Gujarat during the month of May, to study the various infrastructure works.
