ANC to examine past links to raid
The raid at Oakwood Hotel in Juhu has once again highlighted the widespread drug trade that operates out of pubs and discos in the western suburbs under the guise of “party hotspots”.
Speaking about the raid, an officer with the Anti-Narcotics Cell told The Asian Age, “Four months ago, we were working on information about a similar rave party at a high-end joint in the Versova area. However, word leaked out at the last minute and the party was abruptly ended. The attendees left the hotel before our teams could reach there. Apart from that rave party, we have also had several inputs ab-out peddlers making quiet sales at various party spots in the western suburbs.”
However, the police has now requested the names of those detained in the 2008 rave bust in Juhu and will be checking if any of those detained back then are also among those detained in Sunday’s raid.
“The detainees will be allowed to go after their blood and urine samples are collected. The samples will then be sent for analysis to check for presence of narcotics,” said Vishwas Nangare-Patil, additional commissioner of police, West region.
