‘Adarsh report to be tabled this session’

DCM Ajit Pawar on Wednesday announced to table the much-awaited Adarsh commission report in the both the Houses of the state Legislature before the end of the Monsoon Session. “The government is committed to table the report of the Adarsh commission before the end of this Monsoon Session,” Mr Pawar said.
The issue was raised by senior BJP legislator Devendra Fadnavis, while discussing the Appropriation Bill. Mr Fadnavis alleged that the government was delaying the discussion on the report with wrong intentions. “Why was the government afraid of the report?” Mr Fadnavis asked.
Informing the House that the commission was constituted when the Opposition raised the issue in 2010, Mr Fadnavis demanded that the report be tabled in this Session, along with the Action to be Taken Report (ATR).
Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse also alleged that CM Prithviraj Chavan and revenue minister Balasaheb Thorat were trying to save the persons involved in the scam.
In January 2011, the state government had annou-nced a two-member inquiry commission, consisting of former Bombay high court judge J.A. Patil and former Maharashtra chief secretary P. Subramanian to inquire into the Adarsh society scam. Adarsh society, originally meant for families of the Kargil war heroes, is facing accusations of violations of environmental norms. Besides, several bureaucrats and politicians stand accused of grabbing flats in the society. After the scam was discovered in 2010, then state chief minister Ashok Chavan had to resign from his post, as it was revealed that his relatives owned flats in the Adarsh society.
The two-member Adarsh commission tabled its report to the chief secretary on April 18 this year.
