Acid victim’s kin rejects compensation
Relatives of the acid attack victim, Preeti Rathi, 25, have refused to accept the compensation of `2 lakh announced by the state home minister R.R. Patil on Sunday, a day after Rathi succumbed to her grievous injuries at Bombay Hospital, Marine Lines.
“We will not accept the compensation. What we want is a thorough probe. We want to see the culprit behind bars,” said Lalit Solanki, Rathi’s cousin.
“However, if the government insists, we will donate the amount to a non profit organisation working for acid attack victims. We completely endorse the statement made by BJP leader Sushma Swaraj.”
The family is yet to receive the compensation from the Maharashtra government.
On Monday, the National Commission of Women (NCW), along with non-profits and acid attack victims called for regulating sale of acid in the domestic markets and life imprisonment for such attackers.
Rathi, a Delhi resident, had come to Mumbai to join as a nurse in INS Asvini Defence Hospital in Colaba on May 2, when an unidentified man hurled acid on her at Bandra Terminus.

‘Undeserving people favoured in mns’
Aftab Khan
Nashik, june 4
Claiming that a particular community was being favoured in the MNS, former MNS Lok Sabha candidate Hemant Godse attempted to play the Maratha card. No MNS leader was available for comment.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Mr Godse said that undeserving people were being given tickets by the MNS and that he would resign as the MNS corporator, if asked by the MNS. He said, “MNS MLA Vasant Gite did not use his full potential when I contested the Lok Sabha polls on the MNS ticket. If he had worked properly, I would have been elected. I received 82 votes in a booth in Vasant Gite’s ward which shows his work,” Mr Godse said.
