Aadhar card to be must for IDOL admission
The University of Mumbai has decided to make it compulsory for students seeking admission to its distance education courses to submit UID cards, and those who do not have it will be given provisional admission for three months to produce it.
This was decided upon based on a suggestion by vice-chancellor Dr Rajan Welukar during a meeting on Friday, which looks to be an attempt to put behind the many debacles of the past few months.
According to sources, the meeting on Friday discussed various issues pertaining to admissions to the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL). “One of the issues was getting teachers, students and colleges to design the admission software,” said Dr D. Harichandan, director, IDOL. Dr Welukar’s suggestion regarding submission of Aadhar cards at the time of admission was also welcomed in the meeting. “The idea behind asking students to submit their UID cards is to facilitate the admission process. Stud-ents are required to fill personal information in the admission form, but as the UID cards already have it, this will save time,” said a member of the admission committee who was present during the meeting.
The member of the admission committee added that IDOL should make it compulsory for all students to get a UID card, and keep the admission provisional till the student produces it. The suggestion is expected to be finalised in another meeting on Monday.
When asked, Dr Welukar said, “We are making efforts to make students socially responsible and hence, encouraging them to get the UID card.”
