9 killed, 18 injured in road mishap
A luxury bus and another private vehicle collided head-on in Kasara on Saturday, killing nine persons, including four of a family and injuring 18 others. While the police has registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR), they are waiting for the victims to be identified, following which they will decide on whom to book for rash driving.
Superintendent of police (Thane rural) Anil Kumbhare said the accident took place near Lave Phata at Shahapur at around 4 pm. “The luxury bus, carrying 20 passengers was coming from Shirdi and was headed to Mumbai, while the Toyota Innova was headed in the opposite direction on the other side of the road. It seems the luxury bus driver, who was at a high speed, tried saving a biker ahead of him, but lost control in the process and jumped over the divider onto the other side of the road. There it collided with the Toyota Innova,” Mr Kumbhare said.
The Toyota Innova has been completely smashed and deformed due to the impact of the accident, the local police said. The dead included occupants from both the vehicles. Eight of the nine, deceased, including the four from Dubey family, have been identified. They are Anuj Dubey (53), Sangeeta Dubey (45), Kiran (19), and Suraj (15). The victims have been admitted to Shahapur Gramin Hospital, Thane Civil Hospital and other hospitals in Mumbai.
The bus turned turtle after the collision. The biker also has suffered severe injuries.
