7-year-old raped by neighbour in Ulwe
The family of a minor girl filed a rape case against the girl’s neighbour at Ulwe village in Navi Mumbai on Sunday afternoon. The incident came to light when the scared and visibly distraught girl narrated the incident to her mother after the crime, following which her family filed a police complaint. The 25-year-old accused has been arrested and placed in police custody.
According to the police, the seven-year-old girl lives in Ulwe village near Uran with her family, while the accused had recently moved in with his brother. He has been identified as Vishwajit Singh, who hails from Bihar. At around 1.30 pm, the girl was playing outside her house when she was spotted by the accused. “Singh’s brother was not at home when he called her to his residence and then allegedly forced himself upon her. The girl was then allowed to leave. After going home, she narrated the incident to her mother, who observed her daughter to be a little disturbed,” said a police officer.
The mother then went to the police and lodged a complaint. The police immediately held Singh and placed him under arrest, charging him with rape under IPC and relevant sections of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act (PCSOA). The girl was then taken for a medical test, which confirmed the rape. Singh is currently in police custody and the police is interrogating him to gather more evidence.
The accused has been remanded to police custody till August 30.
