4 men attempt to rob jewellery shop
The police has launched a manhunt for four unidentified persons who tried to rob a jewellery shop in Thane in broad daylight on Saturday morning. The accused, however, fled when the owner raised an alarm, and his brother was injured during the raid.
The police said that the incident occurred at around 11 am at Shree Aaimata Jewellers in Kasarwadavli on Saturday.
“I was minding the store along with my brother Shacharam when two men barged inside, armed with revolvers and choppers. I could see two others waiting on two motorcycles outside, and they all had handkerchiefs around their faces. The men demanded that all the money in the cash register be handed over to them. However, Shacharam tried to fight them and in retaliation, they slashed at his head with the chopper and got stabbed,” said Ogatram Chaudhari, owner of the store.
An injured Shacharam cried out in pain, and his cries unnerved the robbers. Seeing this, Ogatram too started shouting for help. The duo then ran out of the shop, jumped on the waiting motorcycles and fled the scene. Ogatram then rushed Shacharam to the Thane Civil Hospital, and also informed the Kasarwadavli police about the incident.
The police has registered a complaint under Sections 393 and 394 of the Indian Penal Code and is conducting inquiries. “The shop does not have CCTV cameras and we have not been able to identify the accused yet,” said police inspector M.V. Dharmadhikari.
