2 robbed in car, probe underway
Two persons travelling in a car were robbed of cash worth `3.49 lakh at knifepoint when they were intercepted by another vehicle, used by the robbers. The incident took place early on Monday at Ghatkopar (east). The Pant Nagar police has registered a case against the unknown persons. One of the victims had got his left hand slashed, but was released after preliminary treatment.
According the police, Nilesh Talakshmi Maru (43), was travelling with his friend Chandrakant Shankar Kadam (54) in a Maruti Omni to the former’s residence at the Platinum Building on Village Road in Bhandup (west). Mr Maru works at the Durga Wine Shop at Kamathipura, owned by his maternal cousin.
“They were travelling with the day’s cash which is usually with Mr Maru for safekeeping. At around 1.30 am near the Ghatkopar bus depot on the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road, a golden coloured Maruti Esteem intercepted them from which four persons alighted. They threatened the victims with knives and choppers while one of them broke the windshield and slashed Mr Kadam’s left hand before snatching the bag that had the cash,” said senior police inspector Suresh Nirmal of Pant Nagar police station.
Mr Kadam, who had sustained a gash on his left hand, was taken to the Rajawadi Hospital, from where he was discharged after treatment. “There are no CCTV cameras along the road and neither have the victims expressed suspicion towards anyone. Investigations are underway,” Mr Nirmal added.
On February 24, armed men robbed 10 kg of silver from two jewellers in a similar fashion by intercepting their vehicle on Tilak Road in broad daylight. The previous day, armed robbers robbed two bike-borne persons of gold ornaments worth `45 lakh.
