2 killed in bike accident on JJ
Two youth were killed after suffering extensive injuries in an accident on JJ Flyover, late on Sunday night.
The duo was riding on a sports bike, when the incident took place. The incident has once again brought to the fore the issue of motorcyclists openly flouting the ban on motorcycles on the JJ Flyover.
According to the Pydhonie police, the deceased, who have been identified as Dilpesh Rawal (20) and Bhavin Jain (18), were on their way to the WTC in Colaba. While no eyewitnesses to the accident have come forward as yet, the police believes that their bike, a Yamaha R-15, lost control and hit the divider, careening into the opposite end. It also hit a taxi before crashing to a halt, throwing both the riders to the ground. Passing motorists immediately called the police and arranged for ambulances. Both boys were rushed to the JJ Hospital, where Rawal was declared dead before admission.
“Jain was alive, but critical when he was admitted. His family subsequently moved him to Saifee Hospital, where he died during treatment in the early hours of Monday morning,” said an officer with the Pydhonie police.
Both Rawal and Jain were Lalbaug residents, belonging to business families. Jain turned 18 on September 13, and the duo was on its way to have a belated celebration as his birthday falls during Paryushan, the Jain holy month of fasting and abstinence, the police said.
The police has registered accidental death reports in the case.
