The Bombay high court, while upholding a lower court’s order, sentenced a man to life imprisonment for assaulting and raping his teenage daughter-in-law in 2006, stating that the offences expose “decay of human values”.
While hearing the matter, a division bench of Justices Mridula Bhatkar and V. K. Tahilramani, confirmed a Pune sessions court’s order against Sachin Fulsundar. According to the prosecution, the 19-year-old victim lived with her husband and parents-in-law and the accused was her distant father-in-law who lived nearby.
On April 28, 2006, when she was alone, Fulsundar went to her house, and said that his mother had asked her to come by. When the victim went there, he assaulted her with an axe and raped her.
