2 held from Rajasthan in `1.8cr jewellery heist
The Mumbai crime branch has arrested two more thieves from Rajasthan in connection with the `1.83-crore theft case that took place in Chembur in the month of January. The accused had fled to Rajasthan after committing theft. Two days ago, the crime branch in a joint operation with the local police arrested the accused following a tip-off. They were brought to Mumbai on Saturday. The police has earlier arrested one person in this case and is now hunting for one more absconding accused.
Arrested accused have been identified as Kesarsingh Parmar, 21 and Dhalusingh Rajput, 20. Both were arrested from the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan with the help of the Khamnot police on Thursday.
According to the police, the accused were involved in the theft that took place on January 22, 2013 in a jewellery shop at Pandurang Bhavan, Govandi Road, Chembur. The accused, along
with their two partners Babansingh alias Babu Dungarsingh Dasana, 30 and Kisan Singh, broke the rear door of the shop and decamped with the gold-silver-diamonds ornaments worth total `1.82 crore including `20,000 cash.
Complainant Jivibai Chunnilal Jain, 63, registered the offence with the Govandi police and the crime branch initiated a parallel probe in the matter. Crime branch officers made the first arrest in the case on February 5, 2013 and nabbed Dasana. Investigators also recovered `85.30 lakh of the stolen booty from Dasana and on the basis of information provided by him, a team of Mumbai policemen was then sent to Rajasthan, but they could not make any arrests.
“Recently we received information on Parmar and Rajput and with the help of the local police, we arrested them. No recovery has been made from them,” said an officer from Unit-6 but refused to divulge details as one accused is still absconding.
The police is also grilling the arrested duo to get information on the fourth accused. They are also trying to find out where the stolen booty was sold off. Parmar and Rajput were brought to Mumbai after taking their transit remand from the local police.
A city court on Sunday sent them in to police custody.
