2 female foetuses found dumped in Beed
Even as the state government is making claims of a widespread crackdown on female foeticide in Maharashtra, two female foetuses were found dumped under a flyover in Beed on Saturday.
The city was recently in the news after an illegal abortion racket was exposed there, and the police is currently trying to apprehend the doctor couple responsible for it.
The police said that the foetuses were first seen by residents of the Barshinaka area in Beed, who called the Beed police station.
“The foetuses are eight and five months old and were dumped under the Barshinaka flyover. There are a lot of residential colonies as well as clinics in the same area, and we are conducting inquiries there,” said Sambhajirao Kadam, sub-divisional police officer, Beed.
The police does not have any suspects as yet, but is rounding up several doctors for questioning in the area in order to gain clues.
An officer with the Beed police said that nobody in the area saw the foetuses being dumped. The area around the flyover is usually deserted at night, and it is fairly easy for anyone to dump anything late at night or in the early hours of the morning, the officer claimed.
Doctors Sudam and Saraswati Munde were recently found to be running an illegal abortion racket in their hospital in Beed. The lid was blown off the racket after a woman who had come to their hospital for an abortion lost her life. The couple is currently on the run, and a statewide manhunt has been launched for them.
