2 ex-generals among 3 held over Adarsh
The CBI on Wednesday arrested three more persons in the Adarsh housing society scam, including two retired generals.
Those arrested were Maj. Gen. A.R. Kumar (Retd), who was GOC (Maharashtra and Gujarat), Maj. Gen. T.K. Kaul (Retd) and then Mumbai collector Pradeep Vyas, now secretary (expenditure) in the state finance department.
Maj. Gen. Kumar was arrested from his Hyderabad home and is being brought to Mumbai on transit remand.
Both Maj. Gen. Kaul and Dr Vyas, called for questioning through Wednesday, were put under arrest by Wednesday evening.
It was alleged that the two generals had misused their official positions and fraudulently issued no-objection certificates to the Mumbai collector for development of the land, the agency alleged.
The CBI said Dr Vyas, during his tenure as collector between August 2002 and May 2005, allegedly connived with the other accused and accepted false documents as proof of income and granted membership to people who were not eligible.
His wife, Seema Vyas, was allotted a flat in return for the favour, the CBI claimed.
Three persons who were arrested Tuesday were produced before a court Wednesday and remanded to CBI custody till March 31.
