Punjab absconder arrested
JAYPRAKASH S. NAIDU
Mumbai, Sept.15
A 50-year-old from Punjab, who had evaded arrest for eight years after jumping bail in 2004, was arrested from Mumbai by Punjab police officials on Sunday.
According to the officials, the accused Lakhbir Singh, who worked as a labourer, lived in Kartarpur in Jalandhar. In 2004, along with accomplices he demolished a house in Saadhan Wali, Kartarpur and fled with the valuables. The police had arrested them the same year.
“Later Singh was granted bail but during the trial he did not appear in court and remained absconding. He later escaped to Bahrain. We have rearrested him after eight years,” said API Shamser Singh from Kartarpur police.
A lookout notice had been issued against him at the country’s international airports. Earlier this week, immigration officials at the CST international airport detained him after he landed from Bahrain.
