1,262 illegal structures razed
To keep a check on illegal constructions, the controller of the unauthorised construction department of Cidco has carried out various demolition initiatives in the month of April and May 2013, and it has demolished a total of 1,262 unauthorised constructions. The department has razed 329 constructions through 20 drives in the Navi Mumbai area of the Thane district, and 933 constructions through 18 drives in the Navi Mumbai area of the Raigad district.
According to a report prepared by Cidco, it has razed unauthorised constructions in Ghansoli, Airoli, Nerul, Koparkhairne, Kopari, CBD Belapur, Vashi, Sanpada, and Sarsole among others, in the Thane districts during the month of April and May. In the Raigad district, Cidco has razed unauthorised constructions in Kalamboli, Kamothe, Kharghar, Uran, New Panvel and Taloja areas, and cleared the mess created by errant people. These unauthorised constructions included pucca rooms (14), kaccha rooms (288), huts (115), shed canteens (26), stalls (309), handcarts (92) and others (83). In the Thane district, pucca rooms (43), kaccha rooms (96), huts (175), shed, stalls (12), and others (3) were demolished in the Cidco drive.
The demolition of these illegal constructions was carried out under the supervision of Anil Patil, chief controller of unauthorised constructions. FIRs were also lodged in the concerned police stations. Cidco has also written to the municipal commissioner of Navi Mumbai and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company, asking them not to supply essential services, to discourage illegal constructions.
