1 held for senior citizen attack
A day after senior citizen Anusuya Dhyani was stabbed at her residence by a courier deliveryman, a package that he had dropped at the scene of the crime in his panic to flee, became instrumental in the case being cracked.
The police has arrested the man, who acted as the lookout and is on the trail of the assailant. Dhyani was alone at her residence in Chheda Nagar when the doorbell rang. A deliveryman convinced her into undoing the safety chain and opening the door fully, after which he stabbed her. However, before he could rob the house, Dhyani’s cries of pain brought neighbours out of their houses and the accused fled the scene. “We found an envelope containing a cellphone bill, to be delivered to another address in Chheda Nagar. The envelope bore the name and address of a courier company, and we contacted it. After examining its records, we got the names of the two men who were assigned to deliver the batch of packages that contained the envelope, and subsequently their addresses,” said R.M. Gavit, senior PI, Tilak Nagar police station. Based on the information obtained, the police laid a trap near the residences of the two accused on Lokhande Marg in Chembur and on Saturday, picked up one of the two deliverymen, identified as Sandeep Chaurasia.
On being questioned, Chaurasia confessed to have acted as a lookout while his colleague, Pritam Paswan, went and attacked Dhyani. The police is now trying to trace Paswan.
