Yuvi bats for cause
Cricket player Yuvraj Singh has been an inspiration for many aspiring young cricketers. However, now he has taken up another challenge — to create awareness about cancer, a disease he himself battled to return successfully to international cricket.
In the city to unveil Victorinox ‘YouWeCan’ Swiss Army Knife in association with Yuvraj Singh Foundation at Jaypee Vasant Continental, the cricketer says, “I wish for people to look after their health and go for regular check-ups. Even I used to be so involved in games that I hardly ever had time to take care of my health. But now I am very careful about my lifestyle and want people to do the same,” says Yuvraj.
A heartwarming video of patients fighting cancer was also shown at the event. Yuvraj’s mother Shabnam is also a partner in the Yuvraj Singh Foundation, an NGO to spread awareness and create consciousness on the early detection of cancer.
“Having faced a testing time against cancer, I believe that no matter how hard the battle is, one can overcome it through self-determination. I want to encourage millions of people who battle cancer with courage and their families who provide them with unconditional support through the toughest times. All that I would like to say is if Yuvi Can, You Can,” says the cricketer to a cheering crowd. Part of the proceeds from the sale of the knife will go to the Yuvraj Singh Foundation to help in conducting cancer check-up camps across India and spreading awareness about the disease.
When asked about the on-going test series between India and Australia Yuvraj says that since India has already won the series they are now concentrating on IPL series, which is starting from April. “We are gearing up for IPL now,” he adds.
