For your eyes only
Close your eyes and look down, peek and smile from under your long lashes. You think it is just a dream? Well, your dream can come true, with a lash lift. For those perfect, long, voluptuous lashes like Kim Kardashian, Megan Fox, Courteney Cox or Penelope Cruz, get a 45 minute treatment that perms your lashes. Throw away your curlers and mascara — instead, opt for a lash lift that can help you get rid of a lot of eye make-up.
With the True Grit star, Hailee Steinfeld, Kristin Cavallari and other celebrities walking down this path, the treatment is becoming increasingly popular. A process involving shutting your eyes for 45 minutes, that promises perfect eyes at the end of it, doesn’t sound a bad deal. But Arumugam Subramanium, a cosmetic surgeon in Chennai, believes that cosmetic products are a better option. “There are many FDA approved products in the market that help grow your lashes naturally. In case of a lash lift, a formula is applied and the lashes are curled.” It might sound painful, but Arumugam clears the air, saying, “It is painless, but the treatment might result in side effects like lash fall and red bumps on your eyelids.”
Lash lift is a hit among many people and will continue to gain popularity, as it can do away with make-up. Nirmal Singh, a make-up artiste, says, “From face lift to bum lifts to now lash lift, the beauty industry is coming up with so many innovations. The treatment results in heavy volume and curled eye-lashes, so you won’t need a lash-curler or mascara.”
Make-up should not be applied for 24 hours after the treatment.
“Curled lashes complete your eyes, giving them a perfect almond shape. You just need to highlight them with eye-shadow or a kajal and you are all set,” says Nirmal. While the make-up artistes are excited about this technique, the doctors have a different story to share. Karthik R., a cosmetic surgeon, says, “One tends to forget the damage the treatment can cause at a later stage. The curling procedure, where one has to pull existing hair, might damage its roots; and hair transplant over the eye is very difficult.” Because a lot of chemicals are used, it is important for one to get it done by a professional, says Karthik. “A professional has to carefully apply the chemical over the eye. If not executed properly, the treatment can result in damaging the eye.”
