Young pianist’s album tribute to Kishoreda

Music is a tribute straight from the heart. India’s youngest pianist, Abhay Goyle who will be launching his debut album Magical Journey, solely on Kishore Kumar’s songs today in the city, says this debut is his way of expressing his love for his favourite artiste.
“I’ve always been fond of old melodies and am a big fan of Kishoreda. In 2008, I did a solo concert to pay a tribute to the legend. I enjoyed playing his songs so much that I decided to come up with a piano album of his songs,” says the 16-year-old who has been certified as the youngest piano player by Limca Book of Records.
From Pal pal dil ke paas, Kora kagaz, Lekar hum deewana dil to Bhaware ki gunjan, the album is a compilation of songs very close to Abhay’s heart.
“Over the years I’ve grown as an artist and have learnt many things on the way. This is a compilation of my thoughts and journey from the age of 6 to 16,” he says.
Handling success at the age of 16 isn’t easy. But Abhay knows the balancing tricks. “I want to fulfill my grandfather’s dream and become a good musician and spread happiness through my work. That’s the thought that keeps me going,” he adds.
Depicting various moods of the legend, the album is sure to take you through a soulful journey, promises Abhay. “The album has all of Kishore Kumar songs on piano. Since Kishoreda has sung in various genres and moods, I wanted to capture all of them. So from his funny melodies to the emotional ones, there’s something for anyone who loves Kishoreda,” he says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
