Work part-time for rocking party time

They are brimming with ideas for the party season. From roof-top and barbeque parties to going out clubbing and organising house parties — youngsters in the city are experimenting with everything for the upcoming party season. However, the rising prices stays a concern for them. And thus, youngsters are taking up part-time work to earn extra bucks.
“Rising prices doesn’t really bother us much. We know how to manage things,” says Rahul Aggarwal, a second-year B.Com (Hons) student from Delhi University, who in order to have a fulsome New Year, has started taking up daily events to ensure that by the end of the month he has enough savings to party hard.
“The capital has enough opportunities for youngsters. Something or the other keeps happening, like corporate events or mall activities. Participating in any of these activities for a day gives us good money,” says Rahul.
In fact, the number of events that happen also increase during this season. Mohit Bharadwaj who works with Progressive Entertainment, an event management company in the capital, says that Diwali onwards the number of youngsters calling up to work just doubles up. The good part is that the number of events also shoots up considerably. “This is the peak season for events. And it’s just not promotional activities, but a lot more. There is a requirement for young, pretty faces at personal parties too and a lot of youngsters get opportunity there,” says Mohit.
Youngsters even look for opportunities to work at places that don’t just pay them but also offer them freebies.
Priyanka Goswami, a final year engineering student, who also works as a part-time DJ and takes up corporate events to make some extra bucks says, “I opted for DJing this time as it comes with a free party set-up. Plus, I have the options to bring along a few friends and I get discount coupons as well. It works well for me. There’s music, booze and there are friends around. And I’m getting paid too,” quips Priyanka, who at times also takes up outstation events, as it gives her the opportunity to explore.
But for some, it’s not a cakewalk. Isha Kaur, a final year commerce student, says that she has to work really hard to get work that gives her enough money to prepare for the party season. “The kind of lifestyle I enjoy requires a lot of money. I love designer outfits and with party season on, I have to buy designer dresses to attend good parties,” says Isha, who prefers to take up high-end events which pay her enough for everything she needs.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
