Why is this doll house so popular?
Inside this eight-foot doll house, built by a silent era actress Colleen Moore, there are several diamond chandeliers and paintings by Walt Disney. The house resembles an enchanted castle.
The so-called Fairy Castle was commissioned with the fortune the actress amassed in the early 1930s. It has more than 2,000 miniatures and the smallest bible ever written. The actress hired an architect and insisted that the dolls’ house resemble ‘everybody’s conception of an enchanted castle’.
According to The Daily Mail, the work for the house began in 1928, but took seven years to complete in 1935 when America was going through the Great Depression. The house was taken around the country for a tour during this period and in four years, raised $650,000, which was rightly donated to children struggling with poverty.
