Who survived a 10,000 feet fall?
Juliane Koepcke survived a 10,000 feet fall when a plane crashed on Christmas Eve in 1971, killing her mother and everyone else on the plane. Just 17 when it happened, the Peruvian lady, who is now 58, walked and swam for 11 days through the heart of the Amazon until she was finally found. Juliane’s teenage years were spent living in the Amazon with her scientist parents who taught her everything they could about the jungle. Juilane says that it was these lessons that helped her survive the 11-day ordeal. Forestry workers found her on January 3, 1972 and delivered her to safety. The flight, LANSA Flight 508, killed ninety-one people, leaving Juliane as the sole survivor. According to the Daily Mail, Juliane works as a biologist and a librarian at the Bavarian State Collection of Zoology.
