Who is artist David Choe?
Seven years ago, a young graffiti artist was asked by a company in Palo Alto, California, to adorn the walls of its office. He was then offered two choices for payment — a few thousand dollars cash or company stocks for the same amount. Even though David Choe had no idea what he was getting into, he chose the stocks. A choice he definitely doesn’t regret today, because the company whose walls he painted was none other than Facebook! So three days ago when Facebook went public with its stock, David Choe went from artist to multimillionaire, overnight.
When Facebook announced that it would sell its stock options at $53, it also turned Choe into one of the greatest artists of all time. You see, the value of the art he produced in Facebook office, is now 200 million dollars (according to a report in the New York Times based on the number of stock options that he was awarded)! Choe is now an employee of Facebook as well, and congratulations have been pouring on his FB wall from friends and well-wishers. One friend writes, “My Advice David, Hang up the Phone, turn off the Computer, find a nice spot on a beach in Bora Bora, and forget to tell people where you are for awhile (sic).” However, this isn’t Choe’s only claim to fame. The 35-year-old Korean immigrant has also designed the cover art for Jay Z and Linkin’ Park’s album Collision Course, and was one of creators of the artwork used on the sets of the hit indie film Juno.
