Who are the hottest restaurateurs?
Surprise! Footballer David Beckham — and perhaps not that shocking, celebrity British chef, he of those fearsome TV shows — Gordon Ramsay. Yes, the two Englishmen have joined hands to collaborate on a new restaurant, Union Street Cafe in Southwark, London. And initial news indicates that the new opening is going to be one of the hottest tables in town this winter.
As reported by The Daily Mail, an astonishing 2,500 bookings were filled dup at Beckham Ramsay’s new restaurant within just a mere four hours of its website going live. And what’s more, all the Friday and Saturday tables are now full until November.
Maybe this is part of an unprecedented boom that industry experts have predicted in new restaurants opening this winter. Ramsay remarked earlier this year about his new venture that they’d been working on the new site, which is near Borough Market, for the past couple of years and that the amazing large warehouse space would offer quality Mediterranean-influenced food with a daily changing menu. He even jovially added that David Beckham was going to be his sous chef!
After a glittering footballing career that saw him playing for the world’s biggest clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid, L.A. Galaxy and Paris Saint-Germain, this move into the restaurant business is the first of many new ventures David will no doubt be entering into now that his sporting legacy is over.
