White hot winter
This season, fashion gurus are shunning the biggest fashion myth and endorsing white like never before. “Stashing away your whites for the sunny days is not a good idea. Believe it or not, this is the time to flaunt them. Neutrals can brighten up a dull winter day, it is just about selecting the right look. Remember fabrics play an important role here.
Obviously linen won’t be suitable, cashmere, wool, tweed, cable knit, angora and corduroy are the textures of the moment,” says designer Agnimitra Paul.
Agnimitra elaborates further, “Even when the chill factor is strong, white has enough potential to make a style statement, all by itself. And amidst the onslaught of the blacks and blues, chances are going all white will work in your favour. The hue works two ways, it is serene and allows you to beat the cliché and flaunt a soft look.”
“On the other hand, you can explore its versatility by simply adding a dash of colour to white, the effect is to be seen to be believed. For instance, place a multi-coloured stole on a sleek cut white suit or evening dress for dramatic results,” she adds.
Designer Rahul Mishra explores the routes for soft to bright combinations with white. “This is certainly not the easiest look in the fashion book. But boy! If you manage to play the right tune, you are set to dazzle. A white winter dress with black tights and shoes score high on the fashion report card,” he points out.
Designer Sunil Mehra advocates the white line for men as well. “Tuxedos in white with hints of other colours, probably pink or maroon, used as contrasts in shirts or teamed as ties, sashes, bow ties will be a class apart look. For a more relaxed affair, white jackets in rich fabrics like cashmere in combination with dark wintery coloured corduroy trousers in shades of brown, wine, maroon blue, blue black are also in trend.”
