Last Thursday, when the Macy’s Fashion Evolution pop-up exhibit displayed the pop star’s legendary costumes, for just an exclusive two hours.

The event provided a great insight into how the pop icon has influenced fashion trends and teen psyches over several decades. Material Girl, the fashion brand Madonna created along with her teenage daughter Lourdes, hosted the exhibit that was attended by celebrities like Vanessa Hudgens and Ireland Baldwin, according to The Daily Mail.
Most of Madonna’s shocking outfits that made her popular in the 90’s were on show, such as her Like A Virgin wedding dress; complete with lace gloves and pearls, and the famous Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra corsets she wore during her Blonde Ambition Tour.
Shoppers even viewed the Marilyn Monroe-inspired dress Madonna wore to the 1991 Oscars as Michael Jackson’s date. All the looks were displayed alongside pictures of the singer wearing them in the past. Outfits from her music videos were also spotted, including the black leather motorcycle jacket and T-shirt from her Papa Don’t Preach video.
Arianne Philips, who is Madonna’s stylist remarked on the Like A Virgin look, saying it was one of the most shocking, liberating and influential moments in pop culture and fashion history, and that fashion had never been the same since. Material Girl that was launched three years ago is a fashion line geared towards teenage girls , taking inspiration from the singer’s colourful history.
