When two hearts bond

She’s someone you’d definitely like to give a second look. Nimrit Kaur who made global news when she was spotted at the red carpets at the Cannes Film Festival to promote The Lunchbox couldn’t have asked for more. She’s elated with starring opposite Irrfan in her debut film, directed by Ritesh Batra and produced by a team including stalwarts like Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar, Siddharth Roy Kapur and others.
“One would want to do such roles, when one wants to ‘undo’ an image, but the journey of The Lunchbox has been accepted with so much love everywhere we went — the London Film Festival, France, Amsterdam, Ukraine as it’s a story that connects with the heart. I’ve tried to get as close to my character Ila, a housewife who prepares lunch box and finds that one day it gets swapped and goes to someone else. It’s also about loneliness and how her husband ignores her,” she states. But we wonder what she feels about acting in the film and not sharing a single frame with Irrfan. She explains, “Personally, as an actor it’s an unrequited wish to share the space with him. But the story requires the space between the characters to create the tension. I hope I get another chance to share the frame.”
Even though this is her first film, Nimrit has been associated with the stage for six years now and knows her act well.
She was also the girl you saw romancing a stain on her mouth in a chocolate commercial. “I have done several plays and the ad came from one of the regular castings for models. I have also done another ad with a director who actually tested my acting in his cars as the ad was to be shot in a car. I did a film called Peddlers (yet to release) with Ritesh Batra. I loved the script.”
Talking about her close friends in the industry she says, “I do not have many, but yes Naseeruddin Shah is a good friend of mine. I’m also happy that Karan Johar saw the film and even when he was trekking in Kashmir he called me and said generous things and tweeted about it.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
