When do youngsters buy gold?
On October 24, youngsters invest in gold on the occasion of Dhanteras. “Dhan meaning wealth and Teras meaning the wealth triples through the year,” says Neelam Kandhari, a graduate, whose family invests in gold every year.
Traditionally, people would get a gold trinket to add to their extensive gold collection. But, today they indulge in gold coins or biscuits because they have a higher value in comparison to designed jewellery. “Buying gold is considered a good investment. The gold appreciates, value wise in the long run,” says a partner at Ananya Jewels, Dheeraj Hemdev. The sky rocketing gold prices have also contributed to the high demand for Italian light weight jewellery.
Women always add a twist to their existing collection. The current trend doing the rounds is textured and carved gold. “People today look out for elegant and simple jewellery. Textured and carved jewellery adds to the grandeur of the jewels and yet looks dainty,” adds Dheeraj. Jewellers have been taking orders from clients since three months. The month approaching the festival is most stressful for jewellers.
Nikitha Narang, a johari designer says, “This is a tradition that has been passed down from the time of my great-grandparents.” She has full faith in the belief that she will be lucky enough to get an abundance of jewellery through the year if she buys gold on this day.
