When do Indian artistes go global?

A day long music festival on March 17 in Malaysia is where most youngsters are heading. The Future Music Festival Asia is happening for the very first time in Asia. Disc Jockey Nikhil Chinapa says, “I think the whole world is taking notice about how Asia is the hub for electronic music today. I am going to be playing happy house tunes.”
Nikhil along with DJ Pearl from Mumbai and Delhi’s Jalebee Cartel will be representing the country on this international platform. “Such collaborative ventures are great. I am pleased that they chose the three of us and Submerge to collaborate with as it is an opportunity for so many people. It is a wonderful way to cross promote Asian talent,” says Nikhil. This is a moment of pride for most artistes. DJ Pearl says, “I am very proud that I am chosen to represent the country.”
This is the first time many of these artistes are performing in KL. Arjun Vagale from Jalebee Cartel says, “On our twitter and facebook pages, many fans are expressing their excitement about watching us live. This is a real boost for us as the Jalebee experience will be brand new for them.” The electronic dance music scene in the country is growing at a rapid pace. “We are doing music that global artistes have been doing for eons. India has a handful of great quality artistes,” says Arjun. Ash Roy from Jalebee Cartel says, “We get to listen to various artistes live and perhaps even collaborate with a few.”
Apart from an exciting time, these artistes have a lot of music in store for that day. Pearl says, “I am going to be playing progressive and techno sounds at this festival.”
Many youngsters from across the country are flying to KL for this festival. Afshaan Karim, a music enthusiast says, “There are going to be diverse genres from electronic to hip-hop to chill out music to name a few. A killer line up is ahead of us for a day long festival on multiple stages.” Youngsters are looking forward to artistes from across the globe. It seems like Chemical Brothers are the act most have on their bucket list. Srikant Seshadri, an EDM enthusiast says, “Chemical Brother is something I am definitely looking forward to. Their act is electrifying.”
