When did a mortal become Superman?
After 18 years! The 35-year-old Herbert Chavez’s obsession with Superman reached such great heights that the Filipino native underwent 19 surgeries, amounting to over $7,000, only to look like his childhood idol.
According to The Inquisitor, Chavez took to the Man of Steel at the age of five. Since then, he has had a series of procedures, such as nose jobs, jaw re-alignment, liposuction, pectoral implants and even skin lightening to resemble Clark Kent to the fullest.
Chavez often walks the streets in his specially tailored Superman costumes, garnering a lot of attention from kids, to whom he talks about life lessons and avoiding trouble — just making the world a better place, as the saying goes.
Chavez creates most of the Superman costumes, T-shirts and accessories at his own dressmaking shop.
Earlier this year, Guinness honoured Chavez for having the largest collection of Superman memorabilia in the world. His collection numbered more than 1,250 items, ranging from posters to life-size dolls worth thousands of dollars, reported Elite Daily. Now this is called super-fandom!
