When can one RummiKub?
RummiKub, a tile based game follows the pattern of the card game Rummi. Youngsters across the country are gearing up for the regional and national championship in Bengaluru on June 30.
The beauty of the game lies in the fact that it can be played anywhere and does not require a board. “This game is addictive. All it requires is strategy and practice. It is very similar to Rummi,” says Vinod Ramachandran, a programme analyst.
Many contestants start playing the game online to practice. “We compete against other participants in the online community across the globe,” says Vinod. Youngsters are very active on similar online games as well. “I play similar games for practice. My friends also play this game with me because this gives all of us practice. The more the practice, the better you are at your game,” says Anjali Bokadia, a student. Out of class, into a friend’s house, back home, Anjali carries her game everywhere. “I am a college student and the only time I get free to practice is after class hours. I make use of it by carrying the game everywhere I go,” adds Anjali.
But, according to many, basic mathematic abilities is essential. Dinesh Vasudevan, a product manager who is competing in Bengaluru says, “I feel that this game not only requires basic numeric ability but also skill with numbers. Once you have that, you are sorted.”
This is not a difficult game for people to latch on to. Dinesh adds, “A tip for first timers in the game is that you have to be able to observe numbers on the table and be quick with manipulation. Concentration and being quick His key with this game.”
Ephraim Hertzano, a Romanian-born Jew invented the game. This event has been organised worldwide for the last 21 years. But, it is a pity that nobody from India has ever competed. This year, it is a great opportunity for Indian youth to showcase their talent with words and numbers.
The aim of this tournament is to send a winner to Italy in November for the World RummiKub Championship. “We want to give finalists from India an opportunity to rub shoulder with champions from across the globe,” says Philip Royappan, marketing manager of Funskool India Ltd.
